Wedding on St. Valentine's Day

by Chrystelle Doublesin at Hotel Phoenicia

Hearts, roses, chocolates, champagne, teddy bears and hugs n kisses...

Let us all celebrate a day named to honour Saint Valentine who according to romantic legend was a kind-hearted Roman priest who married young couples against the wishes of Emperor Claudius II.

Romance is in the air as nature stirs from its winters sleep and every bird is singing to attract a mate. Valentine’s day is a time of hope and expectation; a cheerful reminder that spring is on its way and sunny days will soon be here. What better time to get married than the most romantic day of the year? With love and togetherness in the air, Valentine's Day could not be a better choice; it would make the most memorable anniversary date imaginable and unforgettable!

The beauty of a Valentine wedding is that it gives you the opportunity to design your wedding around all the traditional wedding ideas, whilst embracing the powerful feeling of romanticism that Valentine’s Day inspires.

Picture a beautiful ballroom adorned with red roses creating a stunning impact and setting the scene for the whole wedding. Flowers have to be roses. Deep red, the flower of love, or pure white, Red roses would look stunning next to a white or ivory gown or make a real entrance in an all red silk gown carrying a single white rose adorned with ribbon. The groom’s buttonhole could be a single red or rose. Red, white and silver could be used as a colour scheme, being followed through to the table decorations. Tables could be set with crisp white tablecloths, scattered with scented petals or metallic heart shaped confetti that catch the light of a tall candelabra entwined with roses, decorate the chairs with a large red bow. As a special souvenir you can place a single red rose by each of their place settings or champagne truffles in a silver heart-shaped box.

Let the Valentine feeling of passion flow amongst your guests have serenading musicians wandering between the tables during the reception and choose a menu to tease the taste buds. Start with oysters the perfect aphrodisiac, followed by chicken in a rich creamy mushroom sauce with dauphine potatoes and green beans. Dessert has to be an irresistible temptation, maybe a layered chocolate mousse with strawberries and fresh cream followed by baci truffles and coffee. Toast to the wedding speeches and symbolic cake cutting with pink champagne, accompanied by chocolate dipped strawberries then dance together in each others arms for the first time as man and wife on the most romantic day of the year.

What could be more memorable than a Valentine's Day wedding.......
